Bail Bonds

A bail bond is a guarantee to the court that the defendant will appear for all of their scheduled court appearances. Bail is typically set by a judge at the defendant's first appearance in court. The amount of bail will depend on the severity of the charges against the defendant and their criminal history.

There are two main types of bail bonds:

  • Cash bond: The defendant pays the full amount of the bail in cash to the court.
  • Surety bond: The defendant pays a percentage of the bail amount to a bail bond company. The bail bond company then guarantees to the court that the defendant will appear for all of their scheduled court appearances.

How to Post a Bond in Montrose County

To post a bond in Montrose County, you can either pay the full amount of the bail in cash to the court or you can contact a bail bond company.

If you choose to use a bail bond company, you will need to pay the bail bond company a percentage of the bail amount. The bail bond company will then post the full amount of the bail with the court.

Once the bail has been posted, the defendant will be released from jail. The defendant must then appear for all of their scheduled court appearances. If the defendant fails to appear for a scheduled court appearance, the bail bond company will be responsible for paying the full amount of the bail to the court.
